m. mick powell

Instructor: Medical/Trauma Narratives and Social Justice; Thesis I and II

m. mick powell is a queer Black Cabo Verdean femme, a poet, an artist, and the author most recently of DEAD GIRL CAMEO (August, 2025). For their poetry, mick has received fellowships and residencies from Poets & Writers, Art Omi, Torch Literary Arts, Tin House, and others. Their chapbook threesome in the last Toyota Celica won Host Publications’s 2023 Chapbook Prize. They have been published in Split Lip, RHINO, Indiana Review, Muzzle Magazine, and elsewhere, and their work has been nominated for the Best of the Net Anthology and the Pushcart Prize. As a faculty member in 猫咪社区’s MFA, mick works with thesis students and also serves as assistant professor in residence at the University of Connecticut in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, where they were awarded the AAUP Early Career Teaching Excellence Award.
