Caroline Williams, MS, LCGC
Caroline received her master's in genetic counseling from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where she worked closely with the Heartland Regional Genetics Network (HRGN) to develop educational materials for and build community with Spanish- and Marshallese-speaking communities. This collaboration served as the basis for her thesis project, which investigated the experiences of Marshallese mothers with newborn screening and resulted in the broader distribution of educational materials generated by HRGN. After graduating, Caroline joined UnityPoint Health to help develop a new, general practice genetic counseling clinic, where she gained experience streamlining clinic workflows, networking with provider groups, and leading community outreach. She has worked across a wide range of specialties, including oncology, cardiology, renal, prenatal, pediatric, and general adult genetics.
Caroline is especially interested in education and has partnered with Des Moines University to provide genetics education to first-year medical students through simulated patients and guest lectures. Building on this passion, she is currently pursuing her PhD in Education from Drake University and hopes to study genetics education for non-genetic health care providers. Caroline lives in Des Moines with her husband and their two dogs. In her free time, she enjoys cycling, birding, and baking.
